Headcanons: Garou/Wolfskin

Unfinished

  • Habitat

    • They live in large packs consisting of multiple families.

    • In wide open areas with not many trees.

    • On their stronghold, they live in usually small, wooden houses, that aren’t kept very tidy.

  • Diet

    • They are obligate carnivores.

    • Deer, elk, buffalo, bison, moose, more rarely eggs, hares, humans, sheep

    • They’ll take advantage of any “easy” food source (i.e a farm full of sheep)

    • They’ll eat carrion if necessary but prefer fresh meat

    • They don’t eat a lot of fruits or vegetables so don’t have much need for farming.

    • Sometimes they might ingest sweets for the taste, though it’s very difficult to digest

  • Social bonds

    • They are very grabby and physically affectionate

    • When curious about a stranger they sniff them a lot, as well as prod and poke

    • Nuzzling and/or hugging is very common.

    • Touching noses is equivalent to a kiss.

    • Ear biting/licking is an intimate act reserved for close friends, family, and mates

    • Licking open wounds is a sign of high affection; it can serve as a confession of love

    • They wear their hearts on their sleeves, sometimes unintentionally. It’s easy to tell how one is feeling by looking at the position of their ears and tails

    • Touching/ pulling at tails is considered annoying and rude in most situations

    • Growling is also something rude depending on how deep and loud it is

    • Howling is used to communicate location over long distances. It’s also used to ward off potential enemies from their territory. It can also be an expression of joy or affection to others.

    • Play Fighting is common, it’s used to expend energy and form closer ties

  • Hunting

    • They hunt in groups of 3 to 5.

    • Being larger and more powerful than other wolves, an individual can subdue prey more easily alone, though collaboration still ends up being more successful

    • They observe groups of prey and assess which ones are the most optimal for hunting, also factoring the surroundings and terrain in order to form a strategy

    • They have a high amount of stamina and endurance. They can chase prey for miles on two or four legs without getting very tired. They can chase the prey until it tires out first

    • Having hands (hand like paws?) is also an advantage, while running on two legs they can swipe at prey to damage them, or frighten them into losing their cool

  • Culture

    • They value hard work and self sufficiency. Those who can catch large prey by themselves are seen as very effectual.

    • Being able to work in a team is also important as it’s a big part of hunting.

    • They can have 1-4 pups at a time.

    • After they’ve grown enough they can leave to start their own family or be a loner in the pack, or leave home altogether

    • Smell is their dominant sense. They can use it to tell how someone is feeling, tell if someone is near them and who they are, what happened in an area and such. They prefer living in less sanitary environments that feel more lived in than cleaner places.

  • Misc.

    • While typically preferring combat in beast form, they may occasionally use weapons. Axes seem to be their weapon of choice. Usually they might use them when their beaststones break, or are otherwise unable to use their beast form. They can also be used for other purposes, such as collecting lumber, as axes are better than claws for such a situation.
